Impressive figures for Al Maktoum Airport
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Council, has released the impressive figures for Dubai's new airport. The new airport will have 5 parallel runways, and will cover an area of 70 square kilometers, 5 times the size of the existing airport. Al Maktoum Airport will be able to handle up to 260 million passengers a year. Up to 400 aircraft can be parked simultaneously at one of the airport's 5 terminals. Construction of the new airport will cost a total of $35 billion.
Dubai International Airport's replacement
Within 10 years, all Dubai International Airport (DXB) activities will be transferred to Al Maktoum Airport. This airport was of course used by passengers, but also for freight and private aviation.
