Is the Dubai metro about to be extended? In recent days, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai's transport authority, has been soliciting interest from contractors to carry out development work on the next blue line of the Dubai metro!
RTA plans to extend Dubai's metro system
This next blue line will connect the existing red and green lines. It is expected to be almost 30 kilometers long, with more than 15 kilometers of underground lines (the rest will be elevated). In all, 14 stations (7 of them elevated) will be built. Of these 14 stations, two transfer stations have been announced, providing connections to Centrepoint and Creek.
The project is still in its early stages, with the RTA still seeking financing. Indeed, the project is bound to be expensive - very expensive, in fact, since it is estimated to cost several billion dollars. But it's a necessary project for the city, since it's part of the major urban development plan "Dubai 2040".
