A new bridge for Dubai Island

The RTA (Road Transport Authority) has announced the construction of a new bridge to facilitate access to the Dubai Islands. The new bridge will significantly speed up journey times between Downtown and the Dubai Islands. The realization of this project, which we've been hearing about for many months, is proof of the authorities' commitment to the development of this district. Dubai Immo, your trusted real estate agency, takes a look back at this very important news for the Dubai Islands district.
All about the new Dubai Islands Bridge
At 1,425 metres long, the bridge will have eight traffic lanes, four in each direction, for a total capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour. It will be built 18.5 meters above Dubai Creek, allowing boats to pass smoothly thanks to a 75-meter-wide navigation channel.
The bridge is not just for motorized traffic. It will also incorporate bicycle and pedestrian paths, with elevators installed at each end. Two kilometers of additional surface roads will connect this new axis to the existing road networks in the Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands districts.
Significant reduction in journey times
This project should improve the lives of a million people. It aims to relieve congestion in a strategic area of the city, while considerably reducing journey times. According to the RTA, journey times on certain routes will fall from 104 to 16 minutes, representing an estimated saving of 45 billion dirhams over 20 years.
Massive government investment to ease traffic congestion
The contract to build the new Dubai Islands Bridge, worth 786 million dirhams, has been awarded to Dubai Holding. The bridge is part of a wider 6 billion dirham agreement between RTA and Dubai Holding to improve infrastructure in 15 of the emirate's major communities.
The districts concerned include Dubai Islands, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan, Serena, Nad Al Hamar, Palm Beach Towers, Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) and Villanova. The aim is clear: to improve traffic flow and keep pace with the city's rapid growth.
Five areas will benefit from targeted improvements. In Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), four new entrances and exits will double traffic capacity. In Dubai Production City, new bridges from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will cut travel times in half. At Business Bay, improved interchanges and a pedestrian bridge will ease internal traffic flow. On Palm Jumeirah, two pedestrian bridges and acceleration lanes will reduce traffic congestion. At Dubai International City (Phase 3), wider entrances and modernized intersections will cut travel time from 15 to 5 minutes.
For Amit Kaushal, CEO of Dubai Holding, this is a strategic project. He believes that it will greatly facilitate access to the Dubai Islands and offer improved mobility to residents and visitors alike. This initiative confirms Dubai's ambition to become one of the best-connected cities in the world, while placing innovation and quality of life at the heart of its development.
