Will there be a subway at JVC?
Many real estate agents are reporting that the metro will be coming to Jumeirah Village Circle in the next few years. In a market where some people will do anything to sell apartments, it's sometimes difficult to distinguish fact from fiction. In this article, I take a closer look at what's known so far about the development of Dubai's mass transit network.
The blue line, the only official network extension to date
The Dubai government has unveiled the Blue Line, which will comprise 14 metro stops. Located in the north of Dubai, the Blue Line will serve the following stations:
- Creek
- Dubai Festival City
- Creek Harbour
- Ras Al Khor
- Ras Al Khor Industrial
- Nadd Al Hamar
- International City
- International City 2 and 3
- Dubai Silicon Oasis
- Academic City
- Centrepoints
- City Center Mirdif
- Al Warqa'a
- Dragon Mart
Some of these stations will be underground, while most will be outdoor.
The new route will extend over 30 kilometers and is scheduled for completion in 2029, the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
A subway in Jumeirah Village Circle, really?
At present, nothing has been officially announced, and no metro line currently passes close to JVC. Whatever happens, even if the Dubai Government were to announce a new extension to the metro network in the near future, we couldn't seriously envisage an inauguration before 2030, at the earliest. Indeed, it's hard to imagine that a complete metro line could be completed before the Blue Line extension, which has already been announced.

At the time of writing, we can't confirm with any degree of certainty that the Jumeirah Village Circle area will soon see the opening of a metro station. We know that the Government of Dubai is keen to develop public transport on a massive scale, and no one doubts that JVC will one day have one or more metro stops, but it's too early to announce its opening in the medium term.
