Announcement of major redevelopment work on Umm Suqeim Street

Guillaume Giroux on 2 June 2025

Dubai is launching a major project to modernize Umm Suqeim Road and improve traffic flow in the city. Travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road will be reduced from 20 minutes to just 6 minutes. The road's capacity will reach 16,000 vehicles per hour, relieving congestion in several strategic areas of the city.

Complete renovation of roads and intersections

The project involves the renovation of six major intersections, including those with Jumeirah Street, Al Wasl Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Al Khail Road. The intersections with First Al Khail Street and Al Asayel Street will also be completely redesigned to facilitate traffic flow. In total, four bridges and three tunnels will be built, representing more than 4,100 meters of infrastructure.

A two-way tunnel is planned at the intersection with Jumeirah Street, along with a traffic light at ground level. These works aim to improve traffic flow while ensuring a high level of safety for users.

New facilities for pedestrians and cyclists

The project also incorporates cycle lanes, widened sidewalks, and green spaces to promote soft mobility. Modern boulevards and pedestrian zones will give a new look to this key Dubai artery. Urban developments will improve residents' comfort and encourage car-free travel.

Several neighborhoods will directly benefit from this work: Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Manara, Al Sufouh, Umm Al Sheif, Al Barsha, and Al Quoz. These areas are home to more than two million residents, whose daily lives will be improved thanks to this new infrastructure.

Work that meets residents' aspirations

This project is part of Dubai's urban development plan and aims to connect Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. It strengthens connections between major roads and supports the city's population growth.

With this new project, Dubai confirms its commitment to becoming one of the best-connected and most livable cities in the world. The improvement of Umm Suqeim Street is a decisive step towards smoother, greener, and more sustainable mobility.
