OpenAi launches in the Emirates: ChatGPT free for residents
OpenAI , the American artificial intelligence giant founded by Sam Altman , is taking a new step in its international development. In partnership with the Emirati technology group G42 , the company has just announced the creation of a huge data center dedicated to AI in the United Arab Emirates , specifically in Abu Dhabi .
A project called Stargate UAE, with global reach
The project, dubbed Stargate UAE , is part of the "OpenAI for Countries" program, which aims to support states in building sovereign artificial intelligence capabilities. It is an ultra-powerful data center, whose final capacity will reach 1 gigawatt . The first phase of construction, representing 200 megawatts, will be delivered by 2026.
The center will house the latest Nvidia technologies, including Grace Blackwell GB300 chips, designed to run today's most complex and powerful AI models.
Dubai at the forefront of AI adoption
Although the center is based in Abu Dhabi, Dubai will benefit fully from this technological advancement. Authorities announced that Dubai residents will have free access to ChatGPT Plus , the premium version of the popular conversational assistant developed by OpenAI. This measure is part of a strong desire to democratize artificial intelligence and make it a lever for innovation at the local level.
The United Arab Emirates is banking on digital sovereignty
With this strategic partnership, the UAE is confirming its ambition to become a global hub for artificial intelligence. This project is also supported by several major tech players, including Oracle , Cisco , and SoftBank . It is part of a broader plan: the creation of a 5 gigawatt campus dedicated to AI technologies, to host other very high-capacity computing infrastructures.
Economic and real estate opportunities in Dubai
The announcement of this project strengthens the economic attractiveness of Dubai and the entire United Arab Emirates. OpenAI's presence in the region sends a strong signal to international investors : the Emirates are firmly focused on the future. For entrepreneurs and digital professionals, this news makes Dubai a strategic hub, where it is essential to have a presence.
In real estate, this dynamic could lead to increased demand for high-tech office space, engineer housing, and luxury properties for tech executives. Dubai's already dynamic real estate market could see further acceleration.
A vision aligned with the Emirates' long-term strategy
The Stargate UAE project is fully aligned with the UAE's economic diversification strategy, which seeks to reduce its dependence on oil while investing heavily in future-oriented sectors. AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and blockchain are among the national priorities, as also demonstrated by the creation of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence in 2017 .
A real historic turning point for the region
OpenAI's arrival in the United Arab Emirates marks a historic milestone. Not only will the country be home to one of the world's most powerful data centers, but it also affirms its ambition to become a central player in the global race for artificial intelligence. For investors, digital professionals, and citizens, this is a major opportunity to seize.
